Breakfast Briefing – The Business Case for Responsible Business
April 2 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Responsible business is often seen as an optional extra that can be delegated to a CSR department. This talk will present rigorous evidence that responsibility is central to a business’s long-term success – for both shareholders and society. It will discuss how to embed responsibility into your company, so that it moves from a policy into a practice, and navigate the tricky trade-offs that often hold companies back. Alex will draw on large-scale research, real-life examples across a range of industries, and his new book Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit.
Alex Edmans is Professor of Finance at London Business School and a leading authority on reforming business to serve the common good – but using solutions based on rigorous evidence and recognising the importance of both purpose and profit. He has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos and in the UK House of Commons, and given the TED talk “What to Trust in a Post-Truth World” and the TEDx talk “The Social Responsibility of Business”. He also serves as Mercers School Memorial Professor of Business at Gresham College, where he gave a public lecture series on “How Business Can Better Serve Society.”
