The Launch of Ethical Reading’s Healthy and Ethical Workplace programme

March 28, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Healthy and Ethical Workplaces – an innovative approach to wellbeing in the workplace

Thursday 28 March, 4-6pm at Shoosmiths, Apex Plaza, Forbury Road, Reading RG1 1AX

An invitation to leadership representatives, business owners, HR and People Team members, managers and key influencers within organisations

Few would disagree that the world is facing enormous challenges across all aspects of society. The workplace is no exception with almost daily scandals in both the private and public sectors. Poor mental health in the workplace, in particular, is a massive challenge which the statistics below clearly demonstrate.

‘Three out of every five employees have experienced mental health problems due to work or where work was a related factor.’  BITC Mental Health at Work Report 2017.

‘Stress, anxiety and depression are the biggest cause of sickness absence in our society. Mental ill health is responsible for 91 million working days lost every year.’ Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England

In the UK, the financial impact of poor mental health in the workplace is enormous (absenteeism £8bn, presenteeism £17-26bn, staff turnover £8bn). This amounts to a cost per employer between £1205 and  £1,560 per year. And it’s increasing. Stevenson Farmer Review 2017.

To confront this problem and as a key part of Ethical Reading’s community-lead vision to create positive change in the Reading area, we are launching our Healthy and Ethical Workplaces programme on Thursday 28th March.

Together with specialists in the field, we hope to work alongside local organisations to support the mental health and overall wellbeing of their staff. We are confident the result will be a happier, healthier, more engaged and more productive workforce.

We have some exciting ideas to share with you which will play a key part in our collective efforts to make Reading and the surrounding area a better place to live and work.

This will be a collaborative venture as we are well aware that many organisations already have very effective health and well-being programmes – we want to learn from these organisations: what works and what does not!

We are inviting leadership representatives, business owners, HR and People Team members, managers and key influencers from organisations large and small to join us at this launch. We will discuss how we can all play a part in this exciting and unique programme and help our organisation be seen as employers of choice.

Please join us (you and/or a colleague) at the launch of Ethical Reading’s Healthy and Ethical Workplaces programme and learn more about this exciting initiative – Thursday 28th March 4-6.30pm at Shoosmiths, Apex Plaza.
